Munich-based health tech startup Zing Coach, known for its AI-powered fitness app, has raised €9.3 million ($10 million) in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by Zubr Capital and Triple Point Capital and is set to enhance the app’s AI capabilities, expand the team, and drive market expansion.

Co-founded in 2021 by Shaolin Monk Walter Gjergja (Shi Xing Mi), Zing Coach utilizes AI to offer hyper-personalized fitness training. The app provides tailored workouts by analyzing individual performance, vitals, activity levels, and health data. Unlike traditional fitness apps that rely on quizzes, Zing Coach employs advanced fitness tests, movement analyzers, and body composition scanners to deliver precise assessments.

Walter Gjergja emphasized the app’s unique approach: “Zing Coach bridges the gap between technology and personal trainers by using movement analyzers to provide live feedback and motivation to users. Our goal is to build sustainable healthy habits.”

Impressive Retention and User Growth

Despite the high dropout rates in fitness apps, with 63% of users quitting after one day and 91% within 28 days, Zing Coach boasts superior retention rates. Users are 29% more likely to continue using the app after the first day compared to competitors, and 25% more likely to stay for a month or longer. Since its launch, Zing Coach has surpassed one million downloads and maintains a 25% month-over-month user growth.

Future Plans and Technology Enhancements

The fresh funds will be used to expand the team and enhance marketing initiatives to enter new global markets. Additionally, Zing Coach plans to further develop its AI Coach, which provides personalized workout and motivation strategies based on advanced analysis of user behavior across text, audio, and video. Following successful beta testing, the AI Coach will be available to all users this fall.

Co-founder Tanya Parfenyuk highlighted the company’s vision: “We aim to make leading a healthy lifestyle and achieving fitness goals attainable for all by providing highly personalized workout planning and guidance. This investment ensures we can maintain our lead in the market.”

Industry Innovations and Continued Growth

Zing Coach continues to innovate with features like a smartphone-based Body Composition Scanner and real-time workout tracking through the acquisition of Zenia. In 2024, the company introduced the first AI-powered Flexibility Test and personalized stretching workouts.

With this significant investment, Zing Coach is set to revolutionize the digital fitness landscape, offering an unparalleled personalized fitness experience and driving sustainable healthy lifestyles worldwide.
