Helsinki-based Skyfora, a developer of AI-driven weather intelligence solutions, has raised €4 million in fresh funding.

The investment was co-led by Danish VC Ugly Duckling Ventures and Dutch-based LUMO Labs, with participation from Voima Ventures and the EIC Fund.

Harnessing Cell Towers for Advanced Weather Forecasting

Skyfora has developed Telecom GNSS Meteorology, a patented solution that repurposes existing cell towers as high-resolution weather sensors. This technology enables:

  • Continuous atmospheric data collection without additional hardware costs.
  • Enhanced weather forecasting through AI-powered data analysis.
  • New revenue streams for mobile network operators (MNOs) by monetizing telecom infrastructure.

CEO Fredrik Borgström highlighted the platform’s potential:
“With climate change driving more extreme weather events, precise forecasting has never been more critical. Our technology fills observation gaps and provides AI with the high-resolution data it needs to improve accuracy.”s in transforming university innovations into high-potential startups as a key reason for federal investment.

Scaling AI-Powered Weather Intelligence

The startup plans to use the €4M funding to:

  • Expand its Telecom GNSS Meteorology solution globally.
  • Scale partnerships with telecom operators and industry leaders.
  • Advance AI models to improve real-time climate insights.

Investor Confidence in Climate-Tech Innovation

LUMO Labs Partner Linn-Cecilie Linnemann emphasized Skyfora’s alignment with climate resilience and sustainable cities:
“Reliable weather intelligence is crucial for urban resilience. Skyfora’s approach unlocks new possibilities in climate technology.”

Ugly Duckling Ventures’ Andreas Green Rasmussen added:
“AI’s future depends on high-quality, first-party data. Skyfora’s unique dataset gives it a competitive edge in the AI-driven decision-making landscape.”

Supporting Key Industries with AI-Powered Insights

The company’s technology delivers real-time weather intelligence for industries including:

  • Disaster response & insurance – Enhancing risk assessment.
  • Aviation & transportation – Optimizing flight and logistics planning.
  • Renewable energy & agriculture – Improving resource allocation based on weather patterns.

With €4M in fresh capital, the firm is set to revolutionize weather forecasting and climate resilience, turning telecom networks into a global weather data powerhouse.
