Nico Rosberg, former Formula 1 World Champion and now a prominent sustainability entrepreneur and angel investor, has unveiled a new €70M Fund of Funds through his venture capital firm, Rosberg Ventures. This initiative aims to diversify venture capital investments by pooling investor capital and allocating it across a variety of funds.

Rosberg Ventures, which launched its inaugural fund just over a year ago, has quickly established its second fund with a target of €75M, achieving a first close of €30M. This new Fund of Funds will provide indirect investment opportunities in over 2,000 transformative startups across sectors such as AI, health tech, blockchain, robotics, fintech, and consumer technology.

Expanding Access to Venture Capital

In a LinkedIn post, Rosberg highlighted the disparity in venture capital allocation between Europe and the US, noting that the US invests 2.5 times more capital into venture capital than Europe (€188B vs €77B). Moreover, European participation in top-tier VC funds is only about 1-2%. Rosberg Ventures seeks to mitigate this imbalance by increasing the involvement of German and European strategic capital in leading global VC funds, thus fostering widespread startup innovation.

Strategic Investments and Corporate Synergies

The fund focuses primarily on investing in global VC funds and pooling capital from Ultra-High-Net-Worth individuals and families in Germany and Europe with significant local corporate interests. This strategy not only enhances the firm’s investment capabilities but also creates synergistic opportunities between startups and corporates. Rosberg Ventures actively builds bridges between these entities, facilitating scenarios where startups gain valuable customers and growth opportunities, while local corporates accelerate their transformation efforts.

Rosberg expressed his enthusiasm and pride in this new venture, emphasizing that the fund extends the innovative, tech-centric work he began after retiring from Formula 1. Through Rosberg Ventures, he continues to drive significant advancements in global startup ecosystems, leveraging his platform to contribute to a sustainable and innovative future.
