Growing Canada’s Social Finance Ecosystem
The SFF, a $755-million CAD federal initiative launched in 2023, aims to grow Canada’s social finance market by supporting innovative solutions to pressing social and environmental issues. Realize is one of three fund-of-fund managers chosen to deploy SFF capital, alongside Boann Social Impact (Toronto) and CAP Finance (Montréal).
Between 2022 and 2026, Realize is set to receive $153 million CAD in SFF funding. The firm aims to leverage at least $2 in private capital for every $1 of federal funding, with a target of raising $405 million CAD for Realize Fund I.
Portfolio and Impact Focus
With this second round, Realize has committed a total of $67.7 million CAD across 16 investments in 2024. These investments bring unique strategies in real assets, private equity, and real estate while maintaining a dual focus on financial returns and measurable impact.
Lars Boggild, Portfolio Manager at Realize, stated:
“Our growing portfolio demonstrates that achieving risk-adjusted returns alongside strong positive impact is possible. These investments highlight innovative approaches to solving complex social challenges.”
