PeelPioneers, a Dutch foodtech startup based in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, has secured €4 million in growth capital from investors including the Brabant Development Agency (BOM), the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF), and the National Green Fund. The funding will be used to scale up the company’s existing factory in Den Bosch and to open a larger facility in the Murcia region of Spain.
To further support its expansion, PeelPioneers has launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Invesdor platform, aiming to raise another €4 million. The company has already collected €1.35 million towards this goal.
Leading the Circular Economy for Citrus Peels
Founded in 2017, the firm transforms discarded orange peels into valuable ingredients for the food, cosmetics, and cleaning industries. Every day, the company collects over 33,000 kg of citrus peels from retail juicing machines, upcycling them into products like citrus fiber, essential orange oil, and D-limonene.
Expanding Market Reach Despite Financial Challenges
Serving a diverse client base of over 50 companies, the dutch startup continues to grow its impact. Despite reporting a net loss of €3.4 million last year and an expected increase to €4.2 million this year, the company aims to achieve profitability by 2026.
