SolarMente, a Barcelona-based cleantech startup, has proudly announced that renowned actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has become one of its latest investors. While the exact amount of the investment remains undisclosed, this new partnership marks a significant endorsement for the company, following a substantial €50M investment from GNE Finance last year.
Wouter Draijer, CEO of SolarMente, expressed his excitement about DiCaprio’s involvement, stating, “Excited and honoured to share that Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the world’s biggest climate activists and actors, has partnered up with SolarMente to accelerate the Spanish energy transition. Democratizing Solar Energy Access
Founded in 2020 by Dutch engineer and YesDelft alumni Wouter Draijer and Canadian software developer Victor Gardrinier, SolarMente is on a mission to democratize access to solar energy. The company’s innovative subscription model eliminates the initial investment barrier, allowing homeowners immediate access to the benefits of solar energy.
The subscription service encompasses the installation of solar panels and batteries, home electrification, and energy management. The CleanTech also offers customers the ability to generate, store, and sell their energy, significantly reducing electricity bills and maximizing energy savings.
Expanding Services and Sustainable Solutions
In addition to its subscription model, SolarMente provides optional add-ons such as battery systems, electric vehicle charging points, and heat pump systems. A virtual battery service enables users to store excess solar energy and share it with others, enhancing cost savings and efficiency.
Since its inception, the spanish firm has seen exponential growth and has begun expanding throughout the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. The company aims to install more than 10,000 photovoltaic systems in the coming years, contributing to a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
With this investment, the startup is poised to further its impact in the renewable energy sector, leveraging star power to shine a light on the importance of sustainable energy solutions.
