Vienna-based GROPYUS, a company specializing in affordable and sustainable timber-hybrid buildings, has raised €100 million in fresh funding. This brings GROPYUS’ total equity investment to €300 million since its founding in 2019. The investment round was led by Portuguese investment firm Semapa and U.S. VC fund Practical Venture Capital, further boosting the company’s mission to industrialize construction through automation.
GROPYUS will use the funds to accelerate the expansion of its fully automated robotic smart factory in Richen, Germany. Once completed by the end of 2024, the factory will be capable of producing wall or ceiling elements in 16 minutes with up to 86% automation. This factory aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 250,000 m² of gross floor area, which equates to over 3,500 apartments.
Tackling Housing and Climate Challenges
CEO Markus Fuhrmann emphasized the need for industrialization and automation in construction to address the global housing shortage and climate crisis. GROPYUS plans to use this capital to further develop its technologies and advance its pipeline of sustainable construction projects, including ongoing developments in Germany.
Innovative Building Technology
