Amsterdam-headquartered Framer, a platform designed for professional designers to create websites without coding, revealed on Thursday that it has secured $27 million (around €25.5 million) in a Series C funding round.
Meritech Capital spearheaded the funding round, with continued participation from existing investors such as Accel and Atomico. This fresh injection of capital will empower the Dutch company to expand its product and commercial teams both in Europe and the United States.
Koen Bok, co-founder of Framer, highlights the transformative aspect of their platform, stating, “Web design has always been a two-step process: design and then build, which is inefficient and time-consuming. We’ve changed that. With Framer, you design, and we handle the rest – from optimization for search engines to worldwide hosting. It’s a game-changer for large businesses and designers alike.” This announcement follows nearly five years since the company’s previous funding round, which raised €21 million in a Series B round led by Atomico.
Framer: Pioneering the Evolution of Web Design
Founded in 2015 by seasoned entrepreneurs Koen Bok and Jorn van Dijk, who had previously sold their company to Facebook, Framer initially served as a prototyping tool for product designers. However, it has since evolved to tackle a significant challenge in professional web design: bridging the gap between design and development.
The Dutch company has emerged as a vital tool for startups, scaleups, freelancers, agencies, and enterprise teams, streamlining the integration of design and web development into a seamless process. Framer’s innovative approach empowers users to design and deploy responsive, high-performance websites within a single platform, eliminating the need for separate design tools and saving valuable time and effort.
Moreover, the startup boasts an intuitive interface, especially for designers already familiar with tools like Figma. According to Framer co-founder van Dijk, “The beauty of Framer is that it feels natural to designers accustomed to tools like Figma, but the output is industry-leading.”
Since the launch of the company’s Sites in May of the previous year, the company’s professional no-code website platform has witnessed remarkable adoption rates, with monthly growth exceeding 20 percent. Currently, a diverse array of startups and tech companies, including messagebird.com, twingate.com, and superhuman.com, prefer the No-Code Platform as their go-to platform.
