Munich-based Emidat, a startup offering environmental data solutions for the construction industry, has raised €4 million in a seed funding round led by General Catalyst.
This investment will enable Emidat to expand its data platform, enhance product development, and grow its team, all focused on helping the construction sector reduce its environmental footprint.
Advancing Sustainable Building Practices
Emidat’s platform facilitates Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which provide detailed life cycle data on the environmental impact of construction materials. By streamlining EPD creation, Emidat offers cost and time savings of over 70% for material manufacturers. The platform already hosts data on 150,000 products and integrates easily with existing industry workflows.
Meeting New EU Standards
With upcoming EU regulations mandating environmental disclosures for building materials, the startup from Germany is positioned to help the industry comply efficiently. Co-founder and CEO Lisa Oberaigner highlighted the need for change, emphasizing that construction must adopt sustainable practices to reduce the industry’s impact on climate.
Supporting Industry Transformation
General Catalyst’s Samuel Beyer described the company as a “turnkey solution” for decarbonizing construction, with the potential to drive value chain transparency and accelerate industry transformation. By 2030, the firm aims to enable the construction industry to cut over 100 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.
