C2CA, a Rotterdam-based company transforming waste concrete into sustainable construction materials, has secured €10 million in a Series A funding round.
The investment was led by a consortium including InnovationQuarter’s Energy Transition Fund, Taaleri Bioindustry, Chrysalix Venture Capital, and several industry players such as Cimsa Building Materials and Titan Cement.
Aiming to Decarbonize Concrete Production
Founded to address the environmental impact of cement—which accounts for 8% of global CO2 emissions—C2CA is pioneering a shift toward upcycled concrete, aiming to reduce global CO2 emissions by 2% by 2030. C2CA’s technology allows them to repurpose concrete waste from demolition sites, which is then used by local concrete producers to create low-carbon construction materials.
With its pilot facility operational in Hoorn since 2022, the company has successfully incorporated its upcycled materials in six Dutch construction projects. CEO Thomas Petithuguenin described the company’s impact: “This investment empowers us to provide local, high-quality alternatives to traditional concrete, reshaping the industry toward a more sustainable future.”
Expansion and New Facility Development
The funding will support the development of a new upcycling plant in s’Gravendeel, Netherlands, expected to process up to 150,000 tons of concrete waste annually starting in mid-2025. The startup also plans to expand its team, deepen industry partnerships, and broaden its operations internationally.
To better align with its mission, C2CA is preparing a rebrand, including a new company name, as it continues to scale sustainable solutions in concrete production.
