Schiedam-based Battolyser Systems, a developer of the world’s first electrolyser with integrated battery functionality, has raised €30 million in a Series A funding round.
The investment was led by Invest-NL, Global Cleantech Capital, and Innovation Industries, with Invest-NL contributing €8.2 million. The funds will be used to scale up the company’s operations and bring its next-generation electrolyser to market by 2025.
Pioneering Technology for Renewable Energy
Battolyser Systems’ technology combines battery storage and green hydrogen production in one system, offering a fully flexible solution that can switch on and off based on fluctuating renewable energy supply. This capability reduces the cost of green hydrogen production while helping alleviate grid congestion. The company’s upcoming 2.5MW and 5MW systems will be deployed in the Rotterdam port area, Europe’s hydrogen hub.
Key Partnerships and Future Plans
The funding follows a €40 million financing agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) in 2023. Battolyser Systems plans to use the new investment to expand its large-scale manufacturing facility in Rotterdam and meet growing demand for hydrogen solutions. CEO Mattijs Slee emphasized the company’s success in scaling from industrial pilots to megawatt-scale units, with support from investors committed to accelerating the green energy transition.
