Arbonics, a Tallinn-based climate tech startup, has announced a significant funding milestone, securing €5.5 million in a seed round. The investment, led by NordicNinja, Plural, and Tilia Impact Ventures, brings the total raised by the Estonian company to €7.3 million.
The latest investment will enable Arbonics to expand its product portfolio, grow its team, and cover 50% of European forests by next year. The funding will also facilitate further impact assessments on biodiversity, the launch of a scientific advisory board in collaboration with leading scientists, and the expansion of the team.
Arbonics’ Mission and Technology
Founded in 2022 by Kristjan Lepik and Lisett Luik, the estonian startup is dedicated to fighting climate change by developing a unique data and science-based tool for calculating the suitability and impact of afforestation projects. The company’s platform combines over 30 layers of data, including on-the-ground sensors, soil readings, and satellite imagery, with in-house ecology and forestry expertise. This approach allows for remote and accurate calculation of the carbon removal potential of land in European countries.
Impact and Strategic Partnerships
Arbonics has already made significant strides in unlocking new revenue sources for landowners by analyzing over 200,000 hectares and planting more than four million trees across multiple European markets. The company has strategic partnerships with institutions like Swedbank, which launched a product with Arbonics to finance the planting of new forests.
Investor Confidence and Vision
NordicNinja, a founder and operator-led VC fund, praised the startup for its innovative and scalable solution in the crucial sector of metal recycling. Plural, an early-stage platform set up by experienced founders and operators, also expressed confidence in Arbonics’ mission to empower nature with technology for scalable solutions.
CEO’s Statement
Arbonics CEO Kristjan Lepik emphasized the importance of transparency and proven methods for forest carbon projects. He stated, “Our tech stack is designed to elevate the nature-based removals industry, setting a new standard for what can be achieved when forests and technology work in harmony.”
Conclusion: Pioneering in Climate Tech
Arbonics’ funding round marks a pivotal moment in the climate tech industry. With its innovative approach to forest-carbon removal, the company is well-positioned to make a significant impact in combating climate change and advancing sustainable practices in forestry.
