Uppsala-based startup AirForestry has raised €10.3 million in seed funding to advance its drone-based tree harvesting technology. The round was led by Northzone, with participation from Kiko VC, SEB Greentech VC, and Cloudbreak VC. AirForestry’s innovative approach aims to transform how forests are managed, promoting sustainability, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.

AirForestry’s cutting-edge solution uses electric drones to thin forests from the air, significantly reducing the environmental damage caused by traditional heavy machinery. The drones carry a 60-kilogram harvesting tool, capable of pruning and cutting trees, making forest management more efficient while preserving forest ecosystems. This method eliminates the need for logging trails, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 0.8 tonnes per hectare annually.

Scaling Sustainable Solutions

With this fresh funding, AirForestry plans to scale its operations and bring its sustainable forestry solutions to more foresters. The company’s technology has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 10 megatons per year, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change. The startup also secured a €1.7 million grant from the Swedish Energy Agency to support its eco-friendly innovations.

CEO Olle Gelin expressed excitement about the new investment, stating, “We’re thrilled to have such strong support from investors who share our vision of making forest products more sustainable and cost-effective.”

Expanding Global Impact

AirForestry’s drone technology not only enhances forest productivity but also helps protect biodiversity and improve forest health. The company’s future plans include expanding its market presence and further developing its electric drone system to make a significant environmental impact.
