London-based food tech startup Adamo Foods has successfully raised €2.3 million in a Seed funding round, co-led by UK Innovation Science and Seed Fund (UKI2S) and supported by Future Planet Capital and Joyful Ventures.
This funding will enable Adamo Foods to accelerate the development of its ultra-realistic beef steak alternative, made entirely from fungi. Adamo Foods, founded by Pierre Dupuis, aims to use the investment to scale its production capabilities to pilot-scale levels and broaden its product range to include alternative options for steak and chicken breast. The company’s proprietary fermentation process allows them to create long, densely packed mycelium fibers that closely mimic the texture and flavor of whole-cut meat.
A Healthier, More Sustainable Option
The innovative fungi steak boasts high nutritional value, with significant protein and fiber content, zero cholesterol, and a remarkable 93% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional beef. The company is preparing for a limited product launch in the UK, with plans to expand across Europe.
Industry Impact and Future Prospects
Hassan Mahmudul, Investment Manager at UKI2S, highlighted the potential of Adamo’s product to stand out in the market, while CEO Pierre Dupuis expressed excitement about the backing from investors with deep food tech expertise. This strategic funding positions Adamo Foods to bring its sustainable, clean-label products closer to consumers, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of meat alternatives.
