Liefergrün, a sustainable last mile shipping platform from Germany, has secured €12 million in a Series A capital funding round.

eCAPITAL (that backed Dryad last week) led the round along with participation from existing investors Speedinvest and Norrsken VC. Prior to this, the startup raised €3 million in seed funding a few months back.

Expand Delivery Network

Liefergrün already saw a significant increase in sales that’s 10 times higher than what they were this time last year. The company plans to use the investment to develop new delivery methods and expand their platform. They also plan to improve their technical product and grow their employee base.

Liefergrün co-founder and CEO Niklas Tauch said, “In the past few months, we’ve seen our sales expand more than tenfold in 2022. This is due to the fact that we have won over new major customers who demand sustainable delivery solutions. Our investors share our vision of making this a reality and have helped us fund further development.

One of their goals is to expand Liefergrün into new markets.” Ann-Christin Kortenbrede, Investment Manager at eCAPITAL, commented that Liefergrün was a hard company to run. However, Liefergrün proved that it was possible through their tech solutions. According to Kortenbrede, Liefergrün’s green and fast deliveries are something no other company can offer.

As a result of their tech solutions, the company witnessed substantial growth in their e-commerce business— which transformed the overall delivery market. Kortenbrede finished her statement by saying she was excited to continue working with the young startup and its existing investors.

Sustainability In Last-Mile Delivery

Liefergrün was founded in 2020 by Niklas Tauch, Max Schleper and Robin Wingenbach. The name is derived from the German word for ‘green,’ which relates to the company’s goal of making the last mile of logistics emission-free, fair and convenient. They does this by using a fleet of cargo bikes and electric vehicles for delivery.

The startup claims its last-mile delivery service releases 420 grams of CO2 per delivery instead of releasing it into the atmosphere.

The cleantech startup hoping to become a regular delivery option for online shops is also focusing on new digital features and services. These include making the purchase experience more convenient and sustainable via refund solutions and carbon offsetting.

The company entered a new partnership with Mercedes Van Rental to grow their emission-free delivery fleet in Berlin. Currently, Liefergrün is used by brands such as Adidas, Dyson and Shop-Apotheke. Their goal is to become the first choice for any online store that wants a sustainable delivery option.
