Hilversum-based Polestar Capital, a Dutch asset manager and impact investor, has introduced the €500 million Polestar Capital e-Mobility & Infrastructure Fund (PCEIF) to support zero-emission mobility projects.
The fund aims to bridge the financing gap for e-mobility and logistics ventures struggling to secure capital.
Tackling the Financing Challenges in Green Mobility
The transportation sector is the second-largest CO₂ emitter, and transitioning to zero-emission logistics is crucial for both climate goals and business sustainability. However, more than €120 billion is needed in Europe by 2030 for EV infrastructure and fleet electrification, yet traditional financing options remain limited.
Challenges faced by businesses:
- Banks are hesitant to provide long-term capital.
- Venture capital isn’t always suitable for infrastructure-heavy investments.
PCEIF steps in to fill this financing gap, offering structured debt solutions to companies in North West Europe as they scale their zero-emission fleets and charging infrastructure.
Where PCEIF Will Invest
The fund will provide loans to companies in three key areas:
- Charge Point Operators – Businesses building public EV charging stations for cars, vans, and trucks.
- Depot Charging Infrastructure – Charging solutions for logistics hubs and industrial fleets.
- EV Fleet Operators – Logistics and leasing companies transitioning from fossil fuels to electric vehicles.
Polestar Capital’s Growing Impact
Polestar Capital, which specializes in impact-driven investments, has already deployed €490 million in impact loans in 2024. The firm recently secured an AIFM MiFID Top Up license, allowing it to expand its mobility financing operations.
CEO Jan-Willem König highlighted the fund’s mission:
“The transition to zero-emission logistics is a major opportunity to accelerate decarbonization. Businesses need financial solutions that allow them to scale without compromising their operations.”
Looking Ahead
PCEIF is classified as an SFDR Article 9 fund, meaning it exclusively supports environmentally beneficial investments. It has already developed a pipeline of potential investments and is actively engaging with institutional investors focused on sustainability.
With this €500M fund, Polestar Capital is positioning itself as a leading force in financing Europe’s clean mobility transition, ensuring businesses have the financial backing needed to scale their zero-emission initiatives.
