Enduro Genetics, a synthetic biology startup based in Copenhagen, has secured €12 million in a Series A funding round led by Supernova Invest, NOON Ventures, and Sandwater.

This brings the company’s total funding to €18 million, including grants from the BioInnovation Institute and the European Innovation Council Accelerator.

Tackling Biomanufacturing’s Biggest Challenge

Enduro Genetics aims to solve a longstanding issue in the €400 billion global biomanufacturing industry—declining productivity at an industrial scale. Industries like biopharmaceuticals, alternative proteins, biodegradable materials, and industrial enzymes rely on genetically engineered microorganisms to produce key compounds. However, large-scale processes often cause these microorganisms to mutate, leading to “cell-to-cell variation.” Non-productive cells outcompete productive ones, reducing overall efficiency.

Peter Rugbjerg, Founder and CSO of Enduro Genetics, explained:
“Biomanufacturing has been limited for decades by the fact that only a minority of cells in bioprocesses contribute to high production. Our technology redefines these processes, unlocking biotechnology’s full potential.”

The Power of “Synthetic Addiction”

Enduro’s breakthrough comes from its patented “synthetic addiction” technology, developed as a spin-off from the Technical University of Denmark. This genetic plug-in links a cell’s productivity directly to its growth and survival, ensuring only high-performing cells thrive.

The result? A stable, productive microbial community that:

  • Eliminates non-productive cells
  • Maximizes biomanufacturing efficiency
  • Reduces production costs

Scaling for Commercial Impact

With the new funding, Enduro Genetics plans to:

  • Accelerate commercialization of its technology
  • Expand its platform to cover more biopharmaceutical expression systems
  • Grow its client base in industries like biopharma, food, agriculture, and industrial manufacturing

Christian Munch, CEO of Enduro Genetics, stated:
“This funding allows us to strengthen our technology platform, scale commercialization efforts, and expand into new biomanufacturing markets.”

A Greener Future for Biomanufacturing

As industries shift toward sustainable, bio-based alternatives to fossil fuels, Enduro’s technology is poised to play a key role in:

  • Decarbonizing industrial processes
  • Producing bio-based fuels, bioplastics, specialty chemicals, and alternative proteins

With strong investor backing and cutting-edge technology, Enduro Genetics is set to transform the future of industrial biomanufacturing, driving efficiency and sustainability on a global scale.
