Spanish deep-tech startup H2SITE has raised €36 million in a Series B funding round, aiming to scale its innovative hydrogen separation technology.
The round was co-led by Hy24, through its Clean Hydrogen Equipment Fund, and SC Net Zero Ventures, with participation from MassMutual Ventures, Enagás Emprende, and Exergon, alongside existing investors.
Advancing Hydrogen Separation Technology
Founded in 2019 and based in Loiu, Spain, H2SITE specializes in membrane reactor technology, which enables the extraction of high-purity hydrogen from various carriers and gas blends. The company’s proprietary palladium-alloy membranes achieve 99.97% hydrogen purity, supporting fuel cell applications and industrial use cases.
H2SITE’s solutions address critical challenges in the hydrogen supply chain by:
- Converting hydrogen carriers within established supply chains.
- Extracting hydrogen from natural gas infrastructure.
- Purifying hydrogen for specialized applications in the energy sector.
Andrés Galnares, CEO and founder of H2SITE, emphasized the importance of the investment, stating:
“This funding, backed by strategic and financial partners, equips us to scale production, expand market reach, and execute large-scale infrastructure projects focused on ammonia cracking and hydrogen separation.”
Strategic Expansion and Industrialization Goals
The newly secured capital will be directed towards:
- Scaling production capacity to process several tons of hydrogen daily by 2026.
- Expanding market presence in ammonia cracking, natural hydrogen production in the US, and maritime decarbonization.
- Accelerating commercial deployment of hydrogen separation units to industries worldwide.
Investor Confidence in Hydrogen Innovation
Guillaume Lesueur, Managing Director at Hy24, stated:
“H2SITE’s advanced purification technology addresses key challenges across the hydrogen supply chain, aligning with our mission to accelerate the global hydrogen transition.”
Natalia Ruiz, Managing Partner at SC Net Zero Ventures, added:
“We are committed to supporting solutions that drive decarbonization, and H2SITE’s innovation is a vital component in advancing sustainable hydrogen infrastructure.”
A Vision for a Sustainable Future
With its cutting-edge membrane technology and a strong consortium of investors, H2SITE is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in the clean hydrogen economy, ensuring scalable, efficient, and cost-effective hydrogen production for industrial and energy applications.
