London-based digital learning platform Perlego has raised €18.1M ($20M) in funding, led by Sir Terry Leahy, former CEO of Tesco.
The investment will help Perlego expand its international footprint and further develop its platform to improve access to academic content. Other participants in the round included ITHAKA, the organization behind JSTOR, along with MediaHuis, Raine, KPN Ventures, and the founders of Kahoot.
New AI-Powered Research Tool
As part of this announcement, the company introduced its new AI-powered research assistant, Dialogo, designed to streamline the research process. The tool allows users to easily locate sources, provides summaries, and directs students to full-text content. CEO Gauthier Van Malderen emphasized that this funding represents a significant step toward driving change in education through AI-driven tools.
Making Education More Affordable
Founded in 2017, the startup was created by Van Malderen and Matthew Davis to combat the high costs of textbooks. The platform offers students unlimited access to over one million titles in collaboration with top academic publishers. Perlego aims to make education more affordable and accessible, serving over 250 educational institutions globally.
