Series, a generative AI-driven game development platform, has quietly raised $28 million in a Series A funding round led by Netflix, Dell Technologies Capital, and existing backers like Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), BITKRAFT Ventures, and F4 Fund. The funding follows a $7.9 million seed round in 2023, positioning Series to expand its groundbreaking game development tools.
Founded by Pany Haritatos, Series is focused on leveraging large language models (LLMs) and generative AI to accelerate game development. The company’s flagship product, the Rho Engine, allows developers to create games faster and more efficiently by automating various tasks, from character design to in-game interactions. The US-based firm aims to become the next Unity, empowering game creators with an AI-native, multimodal full-stack platform that handles both visuals and audio.
Strategic Growth and Acquisitions
In July 2024, the startup from Silicon Valley acquired mobile game studio Pixelberry, known for its popular interactive fiction game Choices: Stories You Play. The acquisition highlights the ambition to integrate generative AI into mobile gaming and interactive storytelling, setting it apart from competitors like Modl.ai and Unity’s Muse Chat.
A Vision for the Future of Gaming
Haritatos, who has a long history in game development with past roles at Zynga and Snap, has grown the startup from 17 employees to over 100 in 2024. With backing from prominent gaming investors like Jens Hilgers of BITKRAFT and game studio founders David Kaye and Joakim Achrén, Series is poised to lead the next wave of AI-enhanced game development.
