Toronto-based startup Ecomtent has closed a $1.15 million CAD pre-seed funding round to further develop its AI-driven content generator for e-commerce retailers. The round was led by MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund (MaRS IAF), with additional participation from Techstars, eBay Ventures, and several angel investors from the retail and tech industries.
Ecomtent’s platform helps sellers and retailers generate AI-optimized visual and written content designed for search engines on platforms like Amazon, Google, and eBay. The startup’s solution is focused on adapting to the changing landscape of e-commerce, where conversational-style searches and customer intent are becoming more critical for online shopping.
Transforming E-Commerce with AI
“E-commerce is about to change fundamentally,” said CEO Max Sinclair, a former Amazon executive. “Generative AI will completely transform how consumers shop online. The current best SEO practices will soon become outdated as AI-powered search dominates.” Sinclair founded Ecomtent in 2022 alongside CTO Timur Luguev, who brings experience from 4AG Robotics and Fraunhofer Institute.
Scaling Operations and Expanding Team
The new funding will allow the startup to expand its team, enhance its AI capabilities, and scale its operations. The company has already completed pilot projects with major retailers, including two with annual revenues of $11 billion and $14 billion. With ambitions to become the go-to content solution for Amazon sellers and agencies, Ecomtent continues to make strides in AI innovation.
