NPower Canada, a tech training charity, has secured $4 million from the Government of British Columbia to expand its Canadian Tech Talent Accelerator (CTTA) program. The initiative focuses on upskilling underrepresented youth for careers in the tech industry, particularly in areas like cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Launched in 2021 and led by NPower in collaboration with partners like Microsoft Canada and CIBC, the CTTA offers a 15-week online training program that includes industry certifications and job placement support. With this funding, NPower Canada aims to support 1,800 additional participants in BC and further develop the program’s curriculum to address growing demands in tech.

Fostering an Inclusive Workforce

Since its inception, the CTTA program has helped over 6,400 individuals, with 80% of graduates securing jobs or enrolling in higher education within six months. The program specifically targets youth from underrepresented groups, including BIPOC communities, newcomers to Canada, women, and LGBTQ2S+ individuals.

Strengthening BC’s Future Economy

Brenda Bailey, BC’s Minister of Jobs, Economic Development, and Innovation, emphasized the program’s role in building a skilled, inclusive workforce for BC’s evolving tech landscape. NPower Canada CEO Julia Blackburn noted that the funding will enhance opportunities for marginalized youth, driving innovation and economic growth in the tech sector.
