Utrecht-based D-Drops, a Web3 gaming startup, has secured €500,000 in pre-seed funding from ROM Utrecht. This makes D-Drops the first Dutch government-backed crypto startup. The funds will support the launch of a location-based treasure-hunting game, where players explore their cities to find real-world rewards.
Set to go live on June 15th, D-Drops’ platform encourages players to venture outdoors, discover new experiences, and support local businesses. CEO and co-founder Shair Amiri said, “As gamers, we know the joy of exploring new worlds and uncovering secrets. We’re excited to bring that sense of adventure into the real world.”
Founders and Mission
The Startup was founded by three brothers from the Netherlands: Shair Amiri (CEO), Zamir Amiri (CTO), and Samir Amiri (COO). Their mission is to infuse daily life with adventure through a game that combines location-based treasure hunting with real-world rewards. Initially available in Amsterdam and Utrecht, the game boasts a prize pool of €100,000, with plans for international expansion.
Supporting Innovation
ROM Utrecht, the Regional Development Agency, supports innovative entrepreneurs in the Utrecht region. Arjan van den Born, Director of ROM Utrecht, praised D-Drops: “The company exemplifies how gamification can drive economic growth, promote healthy habits, and foster community spirit in our cities.”
With this funding, the dutch startup is set to revolutionize the gaming experience by merging virtual excitement with real-world exploration and rewards.
