cogvis emphasizes urgent need for action: Europe will lack 11 million carers by 2030, the use of digital technologies is necessary to overcome the shortage of nursing staff and to ensure the availability of qualitative care for those in need.

The Austrian scale-up cogvis, the pioneer of digital care solutions, strengthens its position as a European pioneer in the field of care technology after winning a prestigious tender in the Swedish model region of Skåne. cogvis pursues a moving mission: it strives not only to develop technologies that make work processes more efficient and improve the working environment in the field of elderly care, but also to make the lives of people in care facilities more liveable.

Now cogvis is emphasizing the urgent need for digital technologies in the care sector to be recognised. With a shortfall of 11 million carers predicted for Europe by 2030, it is essential to use innovative solutions to ensure that every person in need receives the best possible care and can age with dignity – now and in the future. As the staff shortage already exists, swift action is required.

Winning the tender in Skåne is also significant: cogvis’ versatile product cogvisAI, a 3D smart sensor which enables activity monitoring and event detection in real-time covering the entire patient room, has enabled it to prevail against strong competition in the European short-term care (hospital) market. Also, its business model, which is designed for sustainable, steady growth has been able to convince the jury with a great outcome for the Austrian scale-up: At least 800 sensors will now be rolled out in local hospitals in the Swedish model region in several stages.

‘As the founder of cogvis, it fills me with great pride to have won the tender in the Swedish model region of Skåne. This emphasizes our innovative strength and the relevance of our solutions for European markets. Our mission to ensure the quality of care and improve working conditions through modern technologies is gaining in importance with this milestone. With our 3D smart sensor, the best product-market fit in Europe, we are shaping the future of care and bringing about positive changes for society,’ says Dr Rainer Planinc, co-founder and CEO of cogvis.

Innovative technologies and artificial intelligence as important industry catalysts

According to cogvis, the use of innovative technologies, especially in conjunction with artificial intelligence, is indispensable in the care sector. The care sector is therefore one of the industries in which the use of digital solutions does not lead to a reduction in personnel, but is urgently needed to relieve the burden on staff and therefore make the profession more attractive.

Demographic and socio-political developments mean that operators of care and healthcare facilities are increasingly faced with the challenge of recruiting qualified nursing staff and keeping them in the profession in the long term. In addition, an increase in the number of people in need of care is to be expected with a simultaneous decline in family care resources. In order to guarantee high-quality care in the future, it is therefore necessary to intensify activities to cover staffing requirements.

By implementing digital care technologies, cogvis is able to combat the shortage of carers in the long term and significantly improve the quality of life of older people. The technology developed by cogvis, cogvisAI, uses a contactless 3D smart sensor to detect movements in the room and recognise critical situations. This not only prevents falls, but also eliminates recurring causes of falls. In addition, the activity of the person in need of care is also measured, allowing care deficiencies such as pressure sores to be avoided or recognised in good time.

Over 120,000 falls already recognised, 60% reduction in hospital admissions

In an emergency, cogvisAI immediately alerts care staff via the nurse call system or a mobile phone app, resulting in rapid intervention and ensuring the safety of those in need of care. Thanks to its optimized system architecture, cogvisAI is the fastest AI system on the market and achieves maximum accuracy under real-life conditions. By processing the data directly on the 3D smart sensor in real time, cogvisAI offers by far the highest data protection standard in Europe.

cogvisAI has already recognised more than 120,000 falls and provided correct preventive support over 1,500,000 times. The customisable and highly flexible prevention module reduces the number of falls by more than 70% compared to conventional care practice. Falls can be analyzed using visualizations and 60% of hospital admissions following a fall can be avoided.

More than 15% of Austrian care homes already use cogvisAI as a solution in their facility, which shows that the demand for innovative care technologies is increasing.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), up to 80% of care workers in the care sector report mental stress. In light of these challenges, the use of digital technologies such as cogvisAI is urgently needed to reduce workload and improve the quality of care.

‘Carers are undoubtedly the heroes of our time, but they face enormous challenges. By 2030, there will be a shortage of 100,000 qualified specialists in Austria, in Europe it will be over 11 Million. cogvis is here to revolutionize care: more quality, less stress for our care heroes,’ says Dr Rainer Planinc, co-founder and CEO of cogvis.

cogvis is calling for the promotion of public discourse on the use of digital technologies in the care sector and the joint development of solutions to meet the challenges posed by the shortage of nursing staff. This is the only way to secure the future of care in Austria and Europe.

The scale-up is currently expanding and has just raised its next round of capital to drive international scaling.
